It has been six years since the X-files closed down; with Mulder and Scully on the run and colonization looming in the years to come. Faced with the X-files being shut down once more, Agents Monica Reyes and John Doggett were reassigned; the latter back to New York, and the former to New Orleans.

Mulder and Scully spent those six years searching for William, desperately hoping that he was still alive somewhere. Spending their time in the various states, they didn't dare to stay anywhere for a long period of time. This however, had to change when Scully discovered that she was pregnant again. Frightened, the duo fled to New Mexico, creating new aliases for themselves, living in constant fear.

Maggie Scully, disappointed in her daughter's choice of sending her son away, had ceased all contact with her daughter, moving to stay with Bill's family. Though Scully had tried as hard as she could to contact her, it was not until the incident that she had a chance of doing so.

The incident began with Reyes and Doggett pairing up for an investigation of some seemingly ritualistic murders that were happening in New York. However, the case turned out to be something much more sinister. It turns out to be that the murders were a plot by the supposedly dissolved consortium to draw out Mulder and Scully again.

Worried, Reyes and Doggett contacted Skinner, before finding out that it was already way out of his jurisdiction to help them. Nevertheless, he managed to call in some of his contacts, helping them get into contact with Mulder and Scully.

After a week or so, their email was returned, and the duo, together with their newly born son, Roger, made their way back to Washington D.C for the first time in four years.

In that period of time where Mulder and Scully were in D.C, Mulder was cleared of all murder charges, after a mysterious informant made a call to the FBI, telling them that the man that was supposedly dead turned up in another state a few weeks back. Curious, agents from the Bureau went to investigate; proving Mulder's innocence.

The charges against him dropped, Mulder and Scully were free to live their lives as they pleased. Secretly, they began work on a plan to stop the supposed invasion.

News came a few months later, when Jeremiah Smith told them that the invasion was stopped. Sceptical, Mulder and Scully; together with Doggett and Reyes, went to Krychek and Marita; asking if it was true.

The news turned out to be true, and for the first time in four years, Mulder and Scully felt at peace. Now that they had their lives back, they decided to search for William, to finally get to know him.

In their search, they got to know Lillian Caitlyn and Katherine Lynessa, two good friends who had been abducted a while ago. Undergoing regressive hypnotism, they found out the truth about their abduction. It turns out that the aliens had taken them in a bid to discover the source of their powers. Curious, Mulder and Scully had asked about their powers. Before the duo could find out more, Lillian and Katherine disappeared, never to be seen again, or so it seems.

In their quest to find William and the truth about the two friends they met, they met up with Roger Ilian, a retired NSA agent that had been part of the conspiracy before.

Will they succeed? Or will their search only end in vain? And what of the innocents?
